HALF THE SKY: INTERSECTIONS IN SOCIAL PRACTICE ART
Exhibition and Cultural Exchange for Women's Caucus for Art Director: Sherri Cornett
LuXun Academy of Fine Arts, Shenyang, Liaoning Province, China, April 15 - 30, 2014
Wei Er Shen, President of LuXun Academy of Fine Arts in Shenyang, Liaoning Province, China invited the Women’s Caucus for Art to create an art-based cultural exchange and exhibition for women artists focusing on feminist art. Thirteen US based delegate artists created interactive events on topics such as rape and domestic violence, participated in a roundtable with Chinese artists and engaged students and community in this traditionally conservative part of China.
Cornett, with Sandra Mueller, created a center piece dome, “Points of Many Connections” in which visitors were invited to write their names and how they hold up their communities on lengths of fabric that were added to the dome structure.
