The Native American Race Relations and Healing Lecture Series (or, shortened, The Native American Lecture Series) was started in 2016 by Russell Rowland and Adrian Jawort, with the goal of creating a dialogue between Natives and non-Natives to inspire a sense of healing over our history. For three years, the series met once amonth, addressing such issues as Tribal Sovereignty, Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, and business on the reservations.
Robert Hall has been a frequent participant in these discussions as someone who is working to keep the Blackfoot language alive. This interview about blood quantum, The Politics of Blood Quantum, addresses the origins of blood quantum, the pros and cons of the policy as well as miscegenation, psychological trauma and creating nations based on inclusion.

Adrian L. Jawort is a Northern Cheyenne Two Spirit (Hemaneh) fiction writer and journalist who resides in Billings, Montana.

Robert Hall (Maatoomsstatoos) is a Piikuni who isn’t enrolled in his tribe due to outdated methods of tribal membership rooted in scientific racism. His parents are Victor Hall and Olivia K. Davis. He grew up on the Blackfeet Rez and went to Browning Public Schools from K-12 where he is now employeed as the Blackfeet Studies Coordinator. He is passionate about learning his heritage language and find himself blessed to have been taken in as a little brother by William Big Bull, who is a fluent Blackfoot speaker and Robert’s primary language teacher. Together, along with his cousin Sterling Schildt, they created a non-profit called āasāisstto Language Society. āasāisstto is focused on languages revitalization and promotes literacy within the Blackfoot Language using a very powerful writing system that was developed by William Big Bull.

Russell Rowland is the author of five novels, as well as 56 Counties: A Montana Journey, which is now also a radio show on NPR. He and Adrian Jawort founded the Native American Race Relations and Healing Lecture Series in Billings, Montana in 2017. He has a MA in Creative Writing from Boston University.
