Anti-Bias Literature: A Parent's Guide for Reviewing Books with Their Children
by Sherri Cornett for the Billings Coalition for Human Rights and Montana Human Rights Network 1996 28 pages The Billings Coalition for Human Rights, concerned with the rise of bigotry and bias, felt a need to help our children develop critical skills when listening to and/or reading books that might contain racism, homophobia, hurtful stereotypes, unfair treatment of or hatred for groups of people. This resource of books and tools helps children of different races, ethnicities, abilities, beliefs and lifestyles develop personal identity and empowerment. This project included a survey of children's book in the Billings Public Library and purchase of books with the goal that every child would find books reflecting positive stories about their lives. |
