UNITAS and What [(Is It) About My] Memory
2021
With a grant from ForFreedoms.org, Marci McLean and I developed an art-based youth leadership program for Billings area BIPOC teens. The program was held within the installation of my What [(Is It) About My] Memory project in the chapel of Billings First Church and. used memory sharing as a jumping off point for building confidence, strength, vulnerability, connections and collaboration to build team leadership skills.

CREATE AND CHAT ABOUT COMMUNITY-ENGAGED ART
Wednesday w/ Sherri Cornett
at Kirk's Grocery, 2920 Minnesota Ave., October 2, 2019, 7 pm

Join the conversation about community-engaged art with the option to contribute to my community-engaged installation, "Home : Peace" an evolving part of my larger, work-in-progress, "Home Grove" installation (pictured below and currently at Toucan Gallery through October). What does does home mean to you? What reminds you of home? What makes home? Comfort? A place in nature? A community? An object? People? If you can't make it to Kirk's, stop by Toucan and add your ideas to the ovals on the wall.

"Collective of creatives takes collaborative ideas to new heights"
by Anna Paige
Billings Gazette
August, 1, 2018
"Sherri Cornett wishes she were two people. The Billings artist has so many interesting events on her calendar, it’s impossible to be at all of them.
This is a great problem to have, and with the town growing and more people getting involved in the arts scene, Cornett saw an opportunity to bring creative people together. In July 2017, she formed Altitude 3123 with a handful of artistically-minded folks to promote events and foster collaboration and communication among creative people in Billings."

RISE: Empower, Change and Action! brings artists into dialogue and brings forth what is important to self, community, our nation and the world at large through art that reflects on, addresses and seeks solutions for a more positive, empowering future, particularly for self-identified women and girls as well as their families. It is underpinned by the feminist principle that believes in political, economic and social equality for all.

"Being thankful for cornucopia of music, theater, arts"
by Jaci Webb, Billings Gazette, November 23, 2017
"Visual artist Sherri Cornett said she is grateful for the curious and the courageous in her ever-expanding circles of community. She said she appreciates those who want to know people beyond the stereotypes and differences in backgrounds, language and history."Those who speak up, ask questions, listen and take the time to sit with uncomfortable conversations — conversations that can lead to perspectives previously unconsidered, to new insights, to resolution and common ground. Those who stand up and speak out as allies and use their own social agency and capital to influence policies, practices and public officials in support of social and economic equality. Those in my political, advocacy and art communities that are working together to create dialogue and, through their actions, return our cities, states and our nation to places that embrace the rich tapestry created by individual and unique contributions. Those who see and respect each other, who care for each other."

by Jaci Webb, Billings Gazette, October 7 2016
"The area is known as Old Town and Billings artist Sherri Cornett is capitalizing on the urban vibe in the neighborhood by bringing in live music, hula hoop dancing, and innovative art.
“We are aiming to expand people’s perceptions of Minnesota Avenue by having more fun in Old Town,” Cornett said. “We are already thinking of ways to expand an art party into more of the open spaces along the street next summer.”
